Review: A Quality Bird Seed Cardinals Will Love

I recently purchased a bag of Old Potters Wildlife Sunflower Chips and Hearts from Amazon on a sale. I got a three pound bag to test it as a quality bird seed for my neighborhood Northern Cardinals. After going through the bag and putting it out, I can attest that this is a great bird seed for Cardinals, Chickadees, Finches, Sparrows, and more.

I wanted to put together a quick review of this seed below as a bird feeding hobbyist who’s tried more bird seed that I can count. I’ll also post some pictures, so you can judge if this is a seed you’d like to buy. At the end of this post, I’ll put a link to this bird seed, along with similar products for shopping.

I’ve always been a fan of sunflower chips for bird feeding. Sunflower is one of the best things to offer for the widest variety of birds at your feeders (I’ll list birds that like this seed later). But, for a slightly higher price point, sunflower chips also eliminate the mess of leftover shells in your yard. This is essential for me, as I live in an apartment development.

This is completely observation-based by me, but I also feel many birds prefer sunflower hearts and chips. They require less work from them to eat. No shells to break into!

When I purchased these sunflower hearts and chips, the price was around $13 for the three pound bag, on par with many other sunflower chips on the website (this is all subject to change).

I put this seed into my squirrel-buster bird feeder and it works great. Bird have immediately started going after it!

Here’s the seed hanging out in my feeder. I imagine this bag will fill this feeder at least two more times. So, it should last me well more than a month.

I went through this seed and can verify it’s practically free of any fillers like red milo, cracked corn, or sticks. Quality stuff!
